Artists become unofficial historians of thought and change by creating works that reflect the questions and challenges of the time. The 2019 season of aMaSSiT embraces artists with a specific interest in creating thoughtful and prismatic work exploring current trends and topics within popular culture.
I will be performing Come To Me, a new solo work. examining the cultural and physical practices of making oneself feel better. Instead of my habitual reacting to painful stimuli and putting the feelings in perspective, this piece explores approaches to pleasure:
In these times, how do we delicately navigate our daily experience to find and share positive feeling? Where and how do we find it? Can we find meaning and connection in our quest for balanced fulfillment, for elation, for endorphins? By what means can pleasure be conveyed in a performance experience? It is part personal history of my quest for fulfillment amidst loss, part commentary on how to give voice to the unspoken.
